MERCURY™
Cellular-GPS Antenna

The Xertex Mercury antenna combines the two most commonly required mobile wireless antennas into one device. Its small size and low profile allow for stealth (hidden) mounting within the dashboard, rear shelf, or below any other non-metallic horizontal surface. The rugged Mercury is also available in a durable housing for external mounting.

The Mercury is ideal for mobile asset tracking applications. Its cellular antenna offers performance consistent with-or better-than common whip antennas, but in a "stealth" installation.

Typical Antenna Patterns
External Mercury Typical Cellular Antenna Patterns

Azimuth Plane
(cut perpendicular to the antenna and perpendicular to the cable)

Elevation Plane
(cut perpendicular to the antenna along the cable axis)

Omni Plane
(cut in the plane of the antenna parallel to the cable)
External Mercury Typical Cellular Antenna Patterns

Azimuth Plane
(cut perpendicular to the long axis of the antenna and parallel to the cable)

Elevation Plane
(cut perpendicular to the short axis of the antenna and parallel to the cable)

Omni Plane
(cut in the plane of the antenna perpendicular to the cable)
As shown in these typical antenna patterns, the cellular element of the Mercury antenna offers 3dB high-gain two-way performance over a broad area. The GPS element offers a highly-selective frequency response precisely centered over the GPS frequency.

Internal Mercury Mounting:

Standard mounting utilizes Velcro® with pressure sensitive adhesive.
Other mounting options for the Internal Mercury include:

  • "Zip" type plastic ties, available in several configurations.
  • Self-threading screws for attachment directly to a non-metallic surface.
  • Plastic mounting clips which wrap around existing wiring or other features and attach to the antenna utilizing screws and nuts.

    External Mercury Mounting:

  • The external Mercury includes a metal flange designed to be attached to the vehicle roof using RTV type sealant.
  • The cables are mechanically strain-relieved inside the antenna and exit through the bottom metal flange.
  • The metal flange includes an extruded port which protects the cables from damage as they pass through the vehicle body.
  • When mounted, the metal flange forms a watertight seal to the vehicle, keeping water out of the vehicle while allowing the inside of the sealed antenna to vent into the vehicle.
